Abstract: Poor achievement in college mathematics has received attention of the higher learning institution. Although teaching and learning research in the higher learning institution places emphasis on classroom intervention to enhance students achievement, a study in the phenomenon from the perspective of course setting of the secondary level mathematics education as reason behind poor performance in college is also essential. The aim of this study was to examine whether the performance in High School level Mathematics in SPM has an influence on students academic performance in College Mathematics. The respondents of this study were the foundation students from all the three intakes for the year 2006 and 2007. This study adopted descriptive statistics, cross tabulation and independent t-test using Statistical package for Social Sciences. The findings of this study showed that High School SPM Mathematics is associated to student’s performance in college mathematics. It is also found that females perform better than males in mathematics. Students who learnt the high school mathematics in English medium achieved better grades than those who learnt the same subject in Bahasa Malaysia.
