dc.description Abstract: In the present dynamic business environment, the relevance of the education system in meeting the needs of the organizations has often been challenged (Jergensen.zun-l). Traditional instructor centred methods focus on transmitting information from teacher to the student but may suffer from lack of engagement on the part of the student. Learning is often passive and accords low autonomy to the student (O’Neill and McMahon). Student centred learning (SCL) methods have been emphasized as a method to encourage more participation, flexibility and reflection to develop more independent learners with an ability to adapt to new roles and responsibilities presented to them beyond the classroom (Bridgland and Blanchard, 2001). SCL also develops co-operative learning and social Intelligence (SI) as students interact and foster interdependence towards achievement of vested interest in groups/team goals (Corttell, Jr and Millis, 1993
dc.description Yamagishi, Kikuchi and Kosugi, 1999). This study is designed to bridge the lacuna of research on the influence of SI on SCL. Methodologically, this study also develops valid and reliable scales for SCL dimensions and reaffirms measurement assessment for the adapted Tremso’s Social Intelligence Scale (Silvera, et al., 2001).
