dc.description Abstract : A common problem faced by long tractor-trailer drivers is that the fixed side-view mirrors do not provide a useful field of vision during a sharp turning. They are misaligned with one of them showing the front part of the trailer’s body while the other showing an irrelevant view that is far away from the trailer. This might cause unfortunate event ranging from failing into a drain and damaging the vehicle to life­ threatening accidents. Various existing solutions to this problem are reviewed including multiple mirrors, extendable mirrors, convex mirrors and driver assistant. While some of those methods can actually reduce or even solve the problem, they are either too expensive, not convenient or lack of flexibility. This paper introduces a new technique of designing an Electric Self-Adjusting Side-View Mirror that changes angle automatically as the driver turns the steering wheel during cornering so that the critical point of the trailer’s rear wheel is locked on to no matter how much the tractor is turning. It uses the commanding current from the Power Steering Control Module to drive a dc reversible motor to rotate the side-view mirror an angle proportional to the rotation of the steering wheel.
