Abstract
Description
Abstract: With the shifting perspectives of knowledge, there is a need for ethics to be sufficiently emphasized in biotechnology education in Malaysia. A review of the Biotechnology curricula offered in various institutions in Malaysia indicated that ethics received low priority. This may be due to the fact that there may be a contextual, subject embedded type of ethics education rather than specific emphasis on ethics as a subject. This method may prove inadequate for students to be able to address questions and controversies surrounding the use of biotechnology and make choices that will best serve humanity. This paper describes the challenges that Malaysia may face in incorporating ethics in Biotechnology and ensuring that graduates are equipped to take on the moral and ethical view while maintaining a scientific balance.
