dc.description Abstract: Discusses the professional development of teachers. In particular it looks at ways to enhance the effectiveness of teacher training programs. One of the major problems facing the current pre-service and professional development programs is the wide gap that exists between the needs of the teacher and the programs that exist. In the presentation, I would like to emphasize the importance of providing programs that are relevant to the teacher’s needs and subsequently highlight the importance of understanding teacher identity and its effect on teacher’s needs and commitment to professional development.
