dc.description Abstract: Eating habits can be studied via the sensorial, nutritional, socio-cultural, economical and ecological point of view. This study reviewed status of eating habits research in Malaysia, under the tens of sociology in food studies. It aims to facilitate a better understanding of how modern day’s eating habits are inter-related to socio-demographics, lifestyle and cultural influences. In 2007-2008, data on (i) eating patterns

dc.description and (iv) socio-demographics data, were collected using questionnaire, from 2876 sampling respondents, through face-to-face interviews. The findings revealed that eating habits in multi-cultural Malaysia is still being influenced by ones cultural groups. Discussions were made based on the prevalence of obesity among the younger and older generation and its possible causes. Recommendations were proposed to help the food industry today to better position their products among multi­cultural societies in Malaysia.
