dc.description Abstract: This study focuses on the antecedents of students’ perceptions of college readiness as they enter a private institution of higher education in Klang Valley, Malaysia with high school qualifications. It is about first-year students’ pre-college expectations and perceptions of college readiness. We look at factors that may influence their decisions to stay or quit college within the first year. The questionnaire was adopted from a Jacques van der Meer of University of Otago, New Zealand which was developed by Ellen Jansen of University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The questionnaire was administered on the first day of orientation to 130 freshmen students. The data was subjected to scale reliability analysis and Cronbach’s alpha of the constructs was calculated. Furthermore, exploratory factor analysis was used to establish validity of measurement scales. Multiple linear regressions were used to test the hypotheses. Independence, similarities between high school and college and learning support are antecedents being studied in this project. The first two antecedents do not positively influence group work and study skills. Learning support positively influence group work and study skills.
