dc.description | Abstract : The aim of this study is to explore the impact of the changing nature of graduate careers on higher education. For over the last two decades, the economy, organisations and work have undergone significant restructuring bringing about considerable changes in graduate careers. These changes have serious implications on institutions of higher education and their undergraduates. Several employers have been issuing warnings to the higher education sector of the emergence of a “skills gap”
dc.description | a gap that exists between the skills that employers are looking for in graduates and those that the graduates actually possess. The study examines what higher education institutions can do to redress this graduate skills deficit. The conceptual framework for this study is based on the guidelines of best practices advocated by various researches done on curriculum development in higher education. The study also investigates the impact of a specific assessment component (comprising of an individual assignment) on the students’ learning outcomes. The use of a structured questionnaire provides the basis of the findings. The findings show that the individual assignment had indeed enhanced the students’ learning outcomes in content as well as in the development of specific transferable skills using the embedded delivery approach.
